1.   The Holy Scriptures

We believe that the Holy Bible was written by men supernaturally inspired; that it is Truth without any admixture of error for its matter; and therefore, is and shall remain to the end of the age, the only complete and final revelation of the will of God to man; the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions should be tried. By “The Holy Bible”, we mean that collection of sixty-six books, from Genesis to Revelation, which was written and preserved in the Masoretic Hebrew Text for Old Testament and the Textus Receptus for the New Testament. It was then preserved in English in the Authorized (1611) King James Bible, does not only contain, and convey the Word of God, but IS the very Word of God.

By “inspiration”, we mean that the books of the Bible were written by holy men of old, as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, in such a definite way that their writings were supernaturally and verbally inspired and free from error, as no other writings have ever been or ever will be inspired.

2.   The True God

 

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being, the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience. The eternal God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with distinct personal attributes, but without division of nature, essence or being.

A.   God the Father

God the Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of the stream of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all loving and all wise. God is Father in Truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. He is Father in His attitude toward all men. B.   God the Son

Christ is the eternal Son of God. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin, Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and in His death on the cross He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into Heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, partaking of the nature of God and man, and in whose Person is effected the reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission. He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever-present Lord. Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:35-36, 2:10-11; Hebrews 9:24; I John 1:7-9; Revelation 1:13.

C.   God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. His name is the Holy Ghost. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination, He enables men to understand Truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts of sin, of righteousness and of judgment. He calls men to the Saviour and effects regeneration. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the assurance of God to bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and this church in worship, evangelism, and service. 

We do believe the Holy Spirit supernaturally indwells and empowers the true believer to do the work of God. We in no way believe in the “Charismatic Movement” or in the false “tongues” movement as an evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit. On the contrary, we believe it is of the devil and a gross misrepresentation of Scripture. 3.   The Devil or Satan

 

We believe that Satan was once holy and enjoyed heavenly honors; but through pride and ambition to be as the Almighty, fell and drew after him a host of angels; that he is now the malignant prince of the power of the air, and the unholy god of this world. We hold him to be man’s great tempter, the enemy of God and His Christ, the accuser of the saints, the author of all false religions, the chief power back of the present apostasy, the lord of the antichrist, the author of all the powers of darkness destined however to final defeat at the hands of God’s own Son, and to the judgment of an eternal justice in Hell, a place prepared for him and his angels. Job 1:6-7; Isaiah 14:12-17; Ezekiel 28:14-17; Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 22:3-4; John 4:30; II Corinthians 11:13-15; II Thessalonians 2:8-11; I Peter 5:8; I John 2:22; Revelation 20:1-3; 10.

 

4.   Creation

 

We believe in the Genesis account of a six day creation, each day being a twenty-four hour period, and that is to be accepted literally, and not allegorically or figuratively; that man was created directly in God’s own image and after His own likeness; that man’s creation was not a matter of evolution or evolutionary change of species, or development through interminable periods of time from lower to higher forms; that all animal and vegetable life was made directly and God’s established law was that they should bring forth only after their kind. Therefore, we reject the Theory of Evolution, the Gap Theory, the Day-Age Theory and Theistic Evolution as unscriptural human theories of origin. Genesis 1:1;11;24-27; 2:21-23; Exodus 20:11; John 1:3; Acts 4:24; 17:23-26; Romans 1:20; Colossians 1:16-17; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 10:6.

 

5.   Fall of Man

 

We believe that man was created in innocence under the law of his Maker, but by voluntary transgression fell from his sinless and happy state, in consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint, but by choice; and therefore, under just condemnation without defense or excuse. Genesis 3:1-7; 24; Ezekiel 18:19-20; Romans 1:20; 28; 32; 3:10-19; 5:12; 19; Galatians 3:22; Ephesians 2:1.

 

6.   Virgin Birth

 

We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten of the Holy Ghost, in a miraculous manner; born of Mary, a virgin, as no other man was ever born or can ever be born of a woman, and that He is both the Son of God and God the Son. Genesis 3:15; Psalm 2:7; Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25; Mark 1:1; Luke 1:35; John 1:14; I Corinthians 15:47; Galatians 4:4; 1 John 5:20.

 

7.   Atonement for sin

 

We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God, who by appointment of the Father, freely took upon Him our nature, yet without sin, honored the divine law by His personal obedience, and by His death made a full and vicarious atonement for our sins; that His atonement consisted not in setting us an example by His death as a martyr, but was the voluntary substitution of Himself in the sinner’s place, the just dying for the unjust, Christ the Lord, bearing our sins in His own body on the tree; that having risen bodily from the dead, He is now enthroned in Heaven and uniting in His wonderful person the most tender sympathies with divine perfection. He is every way qualified to be suitable, a compassionate, and an all-sufficient Saviour. 8.   Grace in the New Creation

 

We believe that in order to be saved, sinners must be born again; that the new birth is a new creation in Christ Jesus; that it is instantaneous and not a process; that in the new birth the one dead in trespasses and in sins is made a partaker of the divine nature and receives eternal life, the free gift of God; that the new creation is brought about in a manner above comprehension, not by culture, not by character, not by the will of man, but wholly and solely by the power of the Holy Spirit in connection with divine Truth, so as to secure our voluntary obedience to the Gospel; that its proper evidence appears in the holy fruits of repentance and faith and newness of life. 9.   Freeness of Salvation

 

We believe in God’s free grace; that the blessings of salvation are made free to all by the Gospel; that it is the immediate duty of all to accept them by grace through faith; and nothing prevents the gift of salvation of the greatest sinner on earth but his own inherent depravity and voluntary rejection of the Gospel, which rejection involves him in an aggravated condemnation. Isaiah 55:1; John 4:10; 14; Acts 2:38; Romans 3:24; 6:23; 10:13; Ephesians 2:4-9; II Timothy 1:9; Titus 3:5; Revelation 21:6; 22:17.

 

10.  Eternal Security

 

We believe in the eternal security of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person is born again, they have everlasting life which cannot be lost or taken away from them. These then become God’s children and are kept by the power of God through faith unto eternal salvation and sealed unto the day of redemption. John 5:24; 10:27-30; Romans 8:35-39; Ephesians 4:30; Philippians 1:6; I Peter 1:5.

 

11. The Local Church

 

We believe that a Baptist church is a congregation of baptized believers associated by a covenant of faith and fellowship of the Gospel, said church being understood to be founded by Christ as the true church and the citadel and propagator of the Divine and Eternal Grace; observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by His laws; exercising the gifts, rights, and privileges invested in them by His Word; that its officers of ordination are pastors and deacons whose qualifications, claims and duties are clearly defined in the Scriptures. We believe the true mission of the church is found in the Great Commission: first, to make individual disciples; second, to baptize those disciples; third, to teach and instruct as He has commanded. We do not believe in the reversal of this order; we hold that the local church has the absolute right of self-government, free and independent from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations; and that the one and only superintendent is Christ through the Holy Spirit; that it is scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and for the furtherance of the Gospel; that every church is the sole and only judge of the measure and method of its cooperation; that on all matters of membership, of policy, of government, of discipline, of benevolence, the will of the local church is final. 12.  Baptism and the Lord’s Supper

 

We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer; in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Ghost, with the authority of the local church, to show forth in a solemn and beautiful emblem of our faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, symbolizing our death to sin and resurrection to a new life; that it is prerequisite to the privileges of a church relation and to the Lord’s Supper, in which the members of this church, by the sacred use of unleavened bread and the unfermented fruit of the vine are to commemorate together the death of Christ preceded always by solemn self-examination. 13.  Missions

 

We believe that the command to give the Gospel to the world is clear and unmistakable and it was a commission given to the churches. 

We believe that since the word “mission” does not occur in the Word of God, we must qualify and define the terms “mission(s)” or “missionary” as “evangelists” as in Acts 21:8, Ephesians 4:11 and 2 Timothy 4:5. An evangelist is “a messenger of good tidings”, “a preacher of the Gospel”, “to proclaim glad tidings”, “good news, Gospel”.

We believe that “missions” is evangelizing a lost and dying world, baptizing them, and teaching them, in order to start new Independent Fundamental Baptist Churches. The missions program of this church may include, but is not limited to, such things as: foreign and domestic missionaries in the pursuit of establishing and, to some degree, sustaining independent, indigenous Baptist churches for a designated period of time. Therefore, at the Victory Baptist Church, missions should not be defined by the world’s standard of missions being a humanitarian effort, such as but not limited to medical missions, orphanages, feeding and clothing stations etc. However, we have no problem with a mission church whom we support participating in these humanitarian efforts as long as their top priority is evangelizing, baptizing, and teaching. It is our belief that all ministries be based in and under the authority of a New Testament Baptist Church. Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; John 20:21; Romans 10:13-15.

 

14.  Separation

 

We believe that all the saved should live in such a manner as not to bring reproach upon their Saviour and Lord. God commands His people to separate from all religious apostasy, all worldly and sinful pleasures, practices, and associations, and to refrain from all immodest and immoderate appearances. Leviticus 19:28; Romans 12:1-2; I Corinthians 6:19-20; II Corinthians 6:14-7:1; II Timothy 3:1-5; I John 2:15-17.

 

15.  Human Sexuality

 

We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity should be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any and all forms of sodomite lifestyle, homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, incest, fornication, adultery, pornography, and bestiality are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. Therefore, we believe that any form of transgenderism, or changing of gender by appearance or surgery to anything other than what God biologically determined for each individual at birth is unscriptural, nor is gender to be determined by how one might feel on any particular day. There are only two genders – man and woman. We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. Genesis 2:7, 18-25; 13:13; 18:20-19:5, 13; 26:8-9; Leviticus 18:1-30; I Kings 14:24; I Kings 15:11-12; 22:46; II Kings 23:7; Romans 1:26-32; I Corinthians 5:1; 6:9; Hebrews 13:4.

 

16.  Abortion

 

We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies resulting from rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the mental wellbeing of the mother are acceptable. Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44. 

 

17. Heaven and Hell

 

We believe that Heaven and Hell are real, literal, and physical places. Heaven is a place of indescribable beauty and glory, just as Hell is a place of indescribable torment and punishment. Throughout all eternity, Heaven is the final eternal dwelling place of the saved, and Hell is the place of eternal punishment of the lost and total separation from God. 

We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to judgment and everlasting punishment. 

We believe that the souls of the redeemed are, at death, absent from the body and present with the Lord, where in conscious bliss they await the first resurrection, when spirit, soul and body are reunited to be glorified forever with the Lord then we shall appear before the Judgment Seat of Christ to receive rewards for work we did on earth.

We believe that the souls of unbelievers remain, after death, in conscious punishment and torment until the second resurrection, when with soul and body reunited, they shall appear at the Great White Throne Judgment, and shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, not to be annihilated, but to suffer everlasting conscious punishment and torment. 18.  Last Things

 

We believe that Jesus, who was taken up into Heaven, will come in the same manner as He went away bodily, personally, and visibly. His return is imminent and prior to the seven-year tribulation period. Christ will, at this time, receive unto Himself those believers who have died in Christ and those who are alive and remain.

We believe that following the rapture of the church, Israel’s seventieth week will be fulfilled. This will be a time of God’s judgment on the whole earth. The first three- and one-half years will be false peace established by the antichrist possibly due to chaos and instability on earth since all believers will have been caught away. The last three- and one-half years will be the time of Jacob’s Trouble, or the great tribulation period.

We believe that the great tribulation will be climaxed by the revelation of Christ in power and great glory. We believe that Christ will return personally and visibly with His saints and this will usher in the millennial reign of Christ, that Satan will be bound and cast into the bottomless pit, that the curse that now rests on all creation will be lifted, and that Israel will be restored to her own land and to the fulfillment of God’s promises to her.
